Iron and manganese are naturally occurring elements present in water in varying concentrations depending on the source. Iron and manganese causes a number of problems for both municipal, industrial and food and beverage processing plants that utilize source waters rich in these elements including deposits, taste and odors and accelerated biological growth. This results in biofilm problems lost production and contaminated finished products. Iron and manganese are most commonly removed by oxidation.
