Halo Acetic Acid [HAA] Reduction

Haloacetic acids are byproducts formed during the disinfection of drinking water. HAA5 is an acronym for the “sum of mass concentration of five haloacetic acid species” in mg/L commonly found in disinfected drinking water. These five haloacetic acids are Monochloroacetic Acid (MCAA), Dichloroacetic Acid (DCAA), Trichloroacetic Acid (TCAA), Monobromoacetic Acid (MBAA) and Dibromoacetic Acid (DBAA).

HAA5s are primarily formed during the chlorination of surface water, particularly water which is contaminated with high levels of humic and fulvic acids.
