Corrosion Inhibition
 
Corrosion is caused by a chemical or electrochemical reaction between a metal and its environment that produces a deterioration of the metal (forming corrosion products) and its properties. Corrosion inhibition is achieved by the addition of chemicals to the system that prevent the process of corrosion from taking place on a metal surface.

Corrosion inhibition programs are now required in many municipal drinking water plants as a result of USEPA regulation controlling corrosion byproducts such as lead and copper.
