ALTIVIA ACQUIRES
MUNICIPAL WASTE WATER TREATMENT BUSINESS

HOUSTON, Texas --- ALTIVIA Corporation announced that it has signed a
definitive agreement to purchase the North American municipal waste water
treatment business from Vulcan Materials Company (NYSE:VMC). As part of
the transaction, ALTIVIA will acquire the odor and corrosion control
businesses, receive marketing and development rights to certain key
technologies and products, and will assume Vulcan’s national sales and
marketing organization servicing the municipal waste water treatment
markets. The purchase is expected to close by March 31, 2003. ALTIVIA
previously purchased Vulcan’s municipal drinking water business in
December, 2002.
ALTIVIA is a key producer of water treatment chemicals serving municipal
and industrial markets in the United States and Mexico. Its product
line includes sodium hypochlorite (bleach) produced at Greens Bayou,
Texas and St. Gabriel, Louisiana, chlorine, sodium chlorite and chlorine
dioxide. Additionally, ALTIVIA manufactures and markets a full range of
aluminum-based technologies, polymers and specialty coagulants for water
clarification. Other key products include sulfuric acid, caustic soda,
permanganates, hydrogen peroxide, activated carbon and its proprietary
line of AQUAPAC™ and AQUALUM™ coagulants, flocculants and
polymer blends; the AQUAMINE™ and AQUACIDE™ series of
chloramine and chlorine dioxide precursors; and other specialty
chemicals
ALTIVIA, through this acquisition, becomes the largest service and
product provider to the municipal water treatment industry in North
America, treating in excess of 5 billion gallons of water per day and
servicing over 600 municipal water treatment plants.
